Ampthill welcomed Milton Keynes to Dillingham Park for their first home game of the season on a dry, cloudy afternoon but with conditions perfect for running rugby.

It really was a game of two halves with the score not a true reflection of the game.

MK started the brighter, with some strong runs aided by some dubious defence from the home side the Lionesses soon found themselves 0-17 down. The Lionesses slowly got themselves into the game but the first half ended with another score from the visitors leaving it 0-24 at half time.

The second half really was a different story with the Lionesses controlling large portions of possession and territory, some great phases of play and runs deep into the MK half. The Lionesses were also dominant at scrum and lineout but all to no avail as the MK defence creaked on several occasions but ultimately held firm. Fatigue and injuries set in and MK scored 2 quick tries at the death to leave the score 0-41.

Coaches Comments

The Lionesses showed some marked improvement in only the second game of the season with 4 players making their debut (3 of which playing their first ever game of rugby). There is plenty more to come from this team and I look forward to seeing where the rest of the season takes us.
