Stop the press…….Ampthill Ladies have won their first game!! Everyone involved in the squad knew this day was coming and on the weekend of Brexit, England losing to France and Ampthill's 1st XV taking a bonus point away at Newcastle Falcons, the ladies emulated the lot with this performance where nearly everything clicked.

Towcester have been struggling for numbers this season and by switching the fixture to theirs made sure the game went ahead. 12 a side on a claggy pitch meant the legs will be even worse on Monday. But with the extra space you would have thought Ampthill’s speedy backs would have had a field day. But Towcester had other ideas and dominated the first 5 minutes forcing ruck after ruck slowly progressed towards the Ampthill line scoring a fine try which had the coaches muttering under their breath. A little refocusing and the remainder of the half was one way traffic.

Ampthill responded through Gemini Forster breaking from midfield to score on 12 minutes. 10 minutes later Sian Mills scored her first try of the game with a fine break inside the 22.

The forwards lead by Gloria, Bex, Erica and Bethan were turning ball over well and at every opportunity getting on the front foot allowing Gemini to get her second on 33 minutes.

The second half started where the first finished with Ampthill’s forwards running Towcester ragged and a fine surging break from Bex set up Sian’s second.

Towcester’s best player their 9, showed her class and scored a fine breakaway on 50 minutes to get the coaches thinking, this was quickly followed up by another try for the 9 making the scores 17-32 with 10 minutes to go.
