20190323 Ampthill Jets vs Datchworth 2nd XV

Match Report

Still in need to clear some cobwebs before next week’s local derby with Bedford Atheltic, the Jets appreciated the effort made by Datchworth in fulfilling the fixture, despite turning up with only 15. We wish more teams showed the same heart as Datchworth.

The jets showed their strength in depth calling up Jets legend Woody, club legend Spavs and previous try scoring virgin Josh Lockey amongst others returning to replace a number of injuries in the ranks from last week’s test against Welwyn.

A great first 20 minutes for Josh Lockey (Benjamin Button) saw his first try be followed with his first Jets hattrick. This alongside a decent show and go from Wilko who carried brilliantly left the jets 28-0 without breaking a sweat.

Soon after a brilliant 22 metre run in from Trophy Husband #plussizemodel James Little cemented the jets dominance.

At 35-0 Datchworth picked up a head injury on their flanker and the Jets donated the turnstile that is Woody, who got ended by Josh Lockey at one point in the half (chin-up mate).

Other first half tries from Saunders, another from Lockey and Big Timbo gave the jets a 56-5 lead at the oranges. (a consolidation breakaway try from a loose pass) gave Datchworth a try.

For the second half the Jets dropped Bills to save him for next week, a man who’d taken nearly every kick off with ease as promised by big John Cresswell in the pre-match preview.

The second half saw tries from Baz, Norford and Jabs.

There was also a try for big Josh Burton making his first Jets start today. Capping a hugely impressive performance for someone who started playing rugby in November and was brilliant all day.

Lockey got his 5th try but was denied a 6th by Saunders playing for Datchworth....

Saunders had earlier scored following George Adamson near miss on his first try of the year.

Unfortunately, Captain George grew a strange lump on his calf and we hope he is fit for next week’s big game.

The final score was 94-15 a great bounce back from last week. Let’s hope George is fit for next week and gets his first try.
